Near Death Experiences...

So today I read an article with this amusing assertion...
"People who have had near- death experiences are able to slip into dream sleep more easily than those who have not had one, according to a study published in Neurology, the journal of the American Academy of Neurology. "

The main gist of the argument is that this proves NDE's to be nothing but another form of a dream. It is odd what passes for proof in science today. This glosses over some important facts. One, since they only tested people after having a NDE, and as Kenneth Ring's research has shown, people who have NDE's are changed in a lot of ways, including brain function, this research has no idea if they were like this before or because of the NDE. Nor does it explain the explicit details that people floating over their body can give. Some of the best research comes from a heart surgeon, who was completely skeptical of the whole phenomenon. He gave similar questionnaires to everyone he did heart surgery on, and the results convinced him that something was happening that was not illusionary. One of the big factors that convinced him is that he had everyone tell him what they THOUGHT was happening during the surgery, whether they had a NDE or not. The people who had NDE's were VERY accurate, if not frightenly so, and the people who did not have NDE's were completely off. It was one extreme or the other, which dispels the so called scientific argument that the information that people are relaying when they say they are floating above their body is just stuff they are picking up while they are unconscious. If this was really the case, then there should be similarity between the people who have NDE's and those that do not. This does not happen.
In Kenneth Ring's work he showed that people after NDE's tend to have an increase in IQ, in compassion, and peace of mind. Among other things, including better overall health. So what does this mean? Simple, something changes during the experience that cannot be accounted for with the dream or imagination explanation. Anyone who takes an unbiased look at the research realizes that something like what this article proposes addresses very little of the experience. Unfortunately, science will never likely ever allow anything even remotely spiritual to enter its realm. Because it will never accept even the possibility that consciousness creates matter rather than the other way around, they will eventually hit a standstill. In which case they will likely again proclaim they now know everything.
Jane Robert's Seth spoke of the lack of a moment of death. He said that everyone 'dies' at a different point, and that some will leave their bodies before their body’s die, while others will cling to it long after it is dead. Interestingly, this potentially answers a couple of questions that NDE research has. One, why is it not experienced by everyone. Two, the heart surgeon mentioned above discovered that not everyone who had the experience had been dead on the operating table. But back in 1971 Seth had already provided a possible answer to both of these mysteries.
In a perfect world, maybe science would relinquish it's dogma and actually try to work with things to go as far as it can, rather than trying to make everything fit into it's view of how things 'have to' be. Well, I guess we will all know the answer to this question eventually...
